This project involved the re-construction of a church that had been destroyed twice by hurricanes.  In 2005 Hurricane Katrina swept through the Gulf Coast, in the wake of the storm, the only thing that remained was the bell tower of the church.  The site contained several heritage and champion live oak trees, therefore when we started the design; we tried to think of alternative paving methods in order to reduce the amount of impervious surfaces around the trees.  We decided to utilize grass paving for Sunday service parking and utilized asphalt paving for the daily parking for church staff and visitors.  We were also able to salvage a portion of the existing parking lot, and cut in islands to provide some additional landscaping.
